Spiritual Direction

Ted’s approach to spiritual comes from his experience and training in Creation Spirituality, and his theological training at Santa Clara University and Sophia Divinity School.

Other training has been with noted author and monk, Basil Pennington, in centering prayer, and several intensive training weeks with Don Richard Riso, prolific author and authority on the Enneagram and the spiritual and psychological wisdom to be found in its 9 personality types.

Ted’s experience and quest is for a healthy approach to the Western Christian tradition, especially through the wisdom of the 12th century mystics ( such as Meister Eckhart and Hildegard of Bingen) and that of contemporary spiritual writers. Though a Christian in the Catholic tradition, he also has some experience with Native American spirituality (Shaman, Buck Ghost Horse) and Wiccan spirituality (with noted author and Wiccan priestess, Starhawk). He also has a great interest in working with members of the gay/lesbian community on issues related to spirtuality and the Christian tradition.

Spiritual direction usually is scheduled on a monthly basis for a fee. Session begin with prayer/meditation and continue with conversation and clarifying questions. Participants are encouraged to pursue their own spiritual work in a way that is comfortable for them, including centering prayer, reading, art-as-meditation, and journal writing.

An appropriate quote for those seeking support on their spiritual journey might be that of St.Iranaeus:

“The glory of God is the human being fullly alive.”
